Bankya is one of the most famous Bulgarian spa resort for curing heart diseases. It is situated in the green foothills of the Lyulin Mountain at an altitude of 630-640 m., 17 km away from the Bulgarian capital Sofia. It is one of the villa areas of Sofia.
The town is a balneological center for cardiovascular and pulmonary ailments. It can be reached by bus or by a regular railway line. Wonderful places for picnic and tourist outings surround it. The small town has several galleries, many restaurants and cafe, small clubs and a race-course.
There are 2 spa medical centres, summer beach, hydrothermal pools, situated in large picturesque park, policlinics with specialized diagnostics wards, modern sanatoriums, rest houses, cozy hotels, terrain tracks, sport terrains, as well as private lodgings.
The resort climate is temperate continental. The average annual temperature is 9.4oC.The summer is fresh, the autumn warm and sunny and the winter moderately cold.

The Mineral waters of Bankya are slightly mineralized, mild, hypothermal, alkaline, colorless, clear, palatable and tasty with a total flow of 24l/sec. Their temperature is 36,5 – 37C. The waters contain hydrocarbonates and sulphates of sodium, as well as silicon, and fluorine.

- Very near is the capital Sofia with its landmarks and surrounding areas.
- Very interesting are the church St. St. Kiriak and Julita and the St. Petka Monastery situated in the place of Klisura.
- In the region of Bankya there are lots of eco tracks. 20 km from the town is situated the Divotinski Monastery.
